Ron May is Ethos’ Lead Pastor and Church Planter. Prior to planting Ethos, Ron worked for seven years as a teaching pastor at Park Community Church. Ron also worked 13 years as an attorney in Chicago—four years at a large law firm and nine years as a federal prosecutor with the United States Attorney’s Office. Ron is a graduate of Indiana University, Vanderbilt Law School, and has a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Ron is ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America; Ethos is a recognized church plant of the PCA, based in the Chicago Metro Presbytery. He and his family have lived in Chicago’s Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhoods for nearly 25 years. He is married to Jane May, and they have three daughters. Justin Beach joined Ethos as an assistant pastor in September 2015. He is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago, where he studied Film & Animation, and Mid-American Reformed Seminary. Since deciding to pursue pastoral ministry, Justin has had a heart for serving in the city, particularly Chicago. Prior to joining Ethos, Justin interned at Cityview Presbyterian Church, in the west loop area of Chicago. Justin’s interests include movies, spicy food, surrealist art, artisan coffee, craft beer, video games and the southwest. Justin is married to Bonnie, who is a freelance graphic designer and mom. Steve Hendershot is Ethos’ Director of Worship and the Arts. Steve lives in Rogers Park and is married to the vastly superior worship leader Clare. Their daughter Jade is pretty cool. Christine Holt is Ethos’ Director of Children’s Ministries. She is excited about helping children develop their first impressions of God and the world He has made. She has studied Bible/theology and cultural studies at Moody Bible Institute, child development at the Erikson Institute, and has trained with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Christine is the Development Manager at Interfaith House in Chicago’s Garfield Park neighborhood, where ill or injured people without homes can restore their health and rebuild their lives. Alex is 29 years old. He is married to Kelly (4 years) and they have one son, Ethan, who is four months old. Alex is a professional counselor and serves as the Memory Care Director at Bethany Retirement Community. Alex has been a believer for 26 years. He and Kelly have been at Ethos for 3 1/2 years. Alex is a small group and community group leader. Alex is passionate about small groups, discipleship, and one-on-one ministry. He loves seeing God work in people’s lives through intentional community.
John is 41 yrs old. He has been married to Julie for 7 years. Julie and John have two girls— Rachel (5) and Katie (3). John serves as the Global Finance Director at Towers Watson. John has been a believer for 22 1/2 years. He and his family have been at Ethos for 2 years and John has been involved in leading a small group and being in a small group. John’s spiritual gifts are leadership, administration, discipleship and discernment. John’s passions include spending time with folks in community, worship, missions, outdoor sports including running and cycling, travel and his family.
Sean and Rebekah Chatburn
Sean is 40 and Rebekah is 44. Sean and Rebekah have been married for 12 years. They have one son, Keegan, who is 7. Sean and Rebekah both work as financial consultants. Sean has been a believer for 13 years and Rebekah for 22 years. They have been at Ethos since the beginning of the church. Sean is involved on the advisory team. He participates in small groups, and leads numerous community service opportunities. Rebekah also serves on the advisory team, as well as on the finance team and in small groups. Sean and Rebekah are both passionate about and gifted in the area of service.
Kelly and her husband Alex have been married for four years. They have one son, Ethan. Kelly is an accountant. Kelly has been a believer for 22 years. She and Alex have been at Ethos for the past three and a half years. Kelly has been involved in small groups and on the finance team, doing bookkeeping and payroll. Kelly’s spiritual gifts and passions are service and bringing order to chaos (to quote Alex).
