At left is “Cloud Current,” one of the works displayed at the Ethosphere by visual artist Nikolas Burkhart at the Biograph Theater on October 16, 2011.
Burkhart’s current work is an intersection of obsessive line drawing and reductive painting methods. With limited pallet ranges (most often in gray-scale or simple monochromes) these new compositions deliver a formal exploration of line, shape, and form while delving into the sphere of subjective personal experience.
In addition to offering contemplative images, Burkhart’s artistic practice encourages a spirit of collaboration between artists and “non-artists.” His aim is simple; help all people to make and enjoy art. Burkhart has been greatly influenced by agriculture, graffiti, public transportation systems, Abstract Expressionism, theology, poetry and contemporary dance.
Nik Burkhart lives in Chicago.
