Jill Phillips is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter who got her start in the business after graduating from Belmont University in 1998. Her guitar based folk-rock sound combines with rich, insightful lyrics that deal with age-old topics in new and fresh ways. In This Hour (2011) is Phillips’ newest album, and in it, she continues to exhibit her songwriting acumen with some of her most moving and personal songs to date. The record was funded almost entirely through fan support on kickstarter and Phillips documented the process here. Christianity Today included In This Hour in it’s Best of 2011 honorable mentions and noted that “Phillips’ folk rock is laid back and gently paced, with elaborate string, guitar, and piano arrangements that serve as an excellent base for the lyrics.”
Andy Gullahorn was born and raised in the rich musical climate of Austin, TX and then went to College at Belmont University in Nashville to join the legions of songwriters in the country music scene. After graduation, he spent a number of years as a staff writer for publishing companies while playing guitar on the road for singer-songwriter Jill Phillips (whom he happened to be married to).
He has also released four solo albums, including 2010′s Christmas. Andy was a Kerrville New Folk Winner in 2010 and was a runner-up at the 2009 Rocky Mountain Folk Festival. David Wilcox says, “Andy’s songs are full of humor, clear vision, and compassion. His voice is humble and strong; his writing is kind and cutting; his sound is familiar and intriguing; and it all comes together around a beautiful heart that holds a truth that is inspiring and believable.”
